How to grow potted aloe in winter

Insulation

Potted aloe vera has strict temperature requirements in winter. Its growth is stagnant at 5℃. The lower the temperature, the greater the harm to the aloe vera. Therefore, if the winter is not too cold or there are heating conditions indoors, the potted aloe vera can be moved directly indoors to overwinter; if the temperature cannot be guaranteed to be above 5°C, warming measures must be taken. You can dig a rectangular pit, place the potted aloe vera in the pit, cover it with bamboo strips, and cover it with a double layer of plastic film to seal it. If the temperature is too low at night, you can cover it with a quilt or straw thatch. Remove the film in time at noon to allow ventilation.

Watering

The soil in the aloe vera pot should be kept dry and watered once every 15 to 20 days. When the weather is cold, the watering frequency can be reduced or not at all. If the indoor air is dry, you can spray water on the leaves, which can not only remove dust on the leaves, but also reduce water evaporation on the leaves, which is conducive to keeping the leaves green and lush.

top dressing

In addition to applying organic fertilizer reasonably, potted aloe should also be top-dressed in time, once every 40 to 50 days in winter. Usually, urea solution with a concentration not exceeding 2% is used for irrigation, and the concentration of foliar fertilizer should not exceed 0.1%.

illumination

In winter, aloe vera should be exposed to more sunlight. It can be placed in a windproof, sunny place or on a south-facing balcony. Generally, they are moved out after 9 am and moved indoors before 3 pm. In addition, you can also put a transparent plastic bag on the outside of the plant, which will not affect the sunlight entering and can also increase the temperature and humidity. The method of covering with a plastic bag is: use wire to tie an arched round bracket on the edge of the flower pot, put on a plastic bag, wrap the aloe vera and the pot together, and when the room temperature rises, remove the plastic bag in time. Although this method is simple, it is also effective in keeping the aloe vera warm during the winter. The only difference is that the bag should not be covered for too long, otherwise the temperature inside the bag will rise when exposed to the sun, and the bag is not breathable, which will damage the aloe vera.
