Maintenance and management methods of lilies in summer

Fertilization

The initial flowering period of lilies is early June. At this time, the bulbs called "lower roots" grow rapidly and need to be topdressed with leaf-strengthening fertilizer.

When applying topdressing, you can add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers that are easily absorbed and utilized, and mix them in the ratio of nitrogen: phosphorus: potassium (1:0.6:0.8).

If the leaves turn yellow or age prematurely in early July, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and urea should be sprayed on the leaves.

defloration

In early June, the lily buds are gradually preparing to bloom and will continue to grow faster, requiring the consumption of a large amount of nutrients in the plant.

At the same time, the growth of the bulb is quite active and may show signs of insufficient nutrient supply.

Therefore, picking the lily flowers when the buds or flower stems grow to 2-4 cm can allow the nutrients to be fully absorbed and utilized by the bulbs and fertilize the scales.

drain

When there is a lot of rain in the summer, the accumulated water in the potting soil should be poured out in time. Otherwise, the lilies, which are very afraid of waterlogging, will cause root rot and leaf fall.

Pests and diseases

The high temperature and humidity in summer can easily cause lilies to breed diseases and pests.

If the disease occurs, spray carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl or chlorobactone for treatment.

If the lily has roots that are bitten off and scales that are damaged, it should be sprayed with chlorpyrifos.
