How to make grafted Christmas cactus bloom in the same year

How to make grafted Christmas cactus bloom in the same year

1. Time selection for grafting

Weather has a great influence on grafting, and grafting should be done on a sunny day with a temperature of 20 ℃. In other cases, grafting will leave hidden dangers and affect flowering.

2. Grafting rootstock selection

The most suitable rootstock is a sturdy cactus, which is cold-resistant and has weak rejection, making it easier to survive after grafting. When grafting, the rootstock should be about 30 cm higher than the surface of the pot to facilitate the hanging of leaves and stems in the later stage.

3. Scion leaves

The scion should be selected with tender green color, thick and strong, as it has a higher survival rate. When grafting, choose leaf scions that are about to bloom, and graft one scion at a time instead of all of them. Too many scions will affect flowering.

4. Treatment methods

When grafting, it is necessary to reduce the evaporation of moisture in the scion. Usually, the rootstock is cut first and then the scion. The Christmas cactus spikelets are thin, so be careful when handling them. Scrape them gently with a sharp blade and do not cut them directly.

After the scion is inserted into the rootstock, the rootstock and the scion should fit tightly without leaving any gaps, and the tightness of the binding should be moderate. If the surrounding air is relatively dry, you can cover it with a plastic bag for 3 to 4 days.

2 to 3 days after grafting, if the joint is good, you can untie the rope. After untying, place the plant in a cool place and observe carefully for 20 days. Water it after making sure it has survived, then move it to the sun and manage it normally.
