How to fertilize Chlorophytum

How to fertilize Chlorophytum

Required fertilizer ingredients

Chlorophytum, like other plants, needs nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium:

Nitrogen can promote the growth of stems and leaves, making the leaves dark green. Plants deficient in nitrogen grow slowly and their leaves turn yellow.

Phosphorus is responsible for roots and buds. It can promote root growth and accelerate the formation and development of flower buds and leaf buds.

Potassium promotes plant growth, makes the plants strong and sturdy, and enhances the plant's disease resistance.

In addition, the growth of spider plants also requires calcium, sulfur, magnesium, iron, manganese, boron, copper, zinc and other trace elements. Normally there will be no shortage. If it is lacking, add organic fertilizer.

The following points should be noted when fertilizing the root system:

First of all, apply fertilizer less often, more frequently, and at a lower concentration. Excessive fertilization can cause fertilizer damage to the plants.

Secondly, when applying fertilizer, avoid splashing it on the leaves, especially on the new buds that have split. Splashing it on the leaves will cause rot. When applying fertilizer, water it around the edge of the pot.

Third, watering is necessary. It should be done on the morning of the second day after fertilizing. This has two functions: one is to wash away the fertilizer liquid on the leaves; the other is to dilute the fertilizer in the pot to avoid fertilizer damage to the orchid plants.

Fourth, do not fertilize the newly planted spider plants. Fertilize them after the roots grow 3 cm.

Fifth, the temperature should be controlled below 10°C or above 30°C, and do not apply fertilizer.

Sixth, pay attention to the time of fertilization, which should generally be chosen at night so that the fertilizer can be absorbed overnight and fertilizer damage can be avoided. Never fertilize in the morning.

The following points should be noted when applying foliar fertilizer:

First of all, spraying should be targeted. New plants need nitrogen fertilizer combined with potassium fertilizer, and phosphorus supplementation during the flowering period. Use less nitrogen fertilizer for golden orchids to prevent the leaf color from fading.

Secondly, the selection of fertilizers should be scientific and organic fertilizers should be applied, but do not always use the same brand. In addition, the concentration ratio should be appropriate, try to reduce the concentration, and prefer a light concentration to a strong concentration.

Thirdly, the spraying time should be reasonable. Generally, it is sprayed in the evening on a sunny day. This is conducive to the orchid leaves absorbing nutrients at night and avoiding fertilizer damage and reduced efficiency caused by light.

Fourth, the spraying method should be particular. The spray should be mainly on the back of the leaves. The mist points should be fine and the spray volume should not be too large. It is best not to drip water on the leaves.

Fifth, spider plants enter a dormant period in winter, their physiological activities weaken, and they generally do not absorb fertilizers. Fertilize once every half a month and spray a little foliage fertilizer on rootless and sickly orchid plants to maintain their life and increase the survival rate.
