How to prune irises

How to prune irises

When in bloom:

At this time, you don't know when it will wither. When the flower diameter grows to 5 to 6 cm, you can thin out the branches and leaves appropriately and remove the dead flowers.

During the flowering process, the leaves must remain green to provide sufficient nutrients for the flowers. However, the leaves will gradually begin to turn yellow and brown, and pruning is needed at this time to cut off the withered leaves and branches to promote the color change of the plant. A small amount of leaves will grow in the middle of the plant, which should be removed in time.

Weed and clean up dead leaves in time. Carefully observe the plant before and after flowering, and promptly remove fallen leaves, dead flowers and branches around the plant to avoid fungal infection.

Observe carefully during maintenance, and remove the leaves in time if brown or yellow spots are found on the leaves. Spotted leaves are infected with a fungus that will affect the plant's flowering.

Potted water cattail:

It needs to be repotted and replanted every 2 to 3 years. Be sure to cut off the leaves that are too long above the plant, leave the branches about 20 cm long, disinfect the roots, and then transplant.

After pruning, expose the plant to more sunlight and place it in a sunny and well-ventilated place for maintenance.
