August strawberry planting management methods

August strawberry planting management methods

In August, strawberry seedling cultivation enters the final stage, and mid-month is the best time for transplanting autumn strawberries. Proper management will lay the foundation for the healthy growth of strawberries. Below we will learn about strawberry planting and management methods in August.

1. Greenhouse preparation

Disinfect the soil, prepare sufficient base fertilizer, and ensure to use fully decomposed farmyard manure. The soil in the greenhouse is plowed 35 centimeters deep and exposed to the sun, and 3500-4500 kg of decomposed farmyard manure and 30-50 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer are applied. Rotary tillage and harrow to a depth of 15-20 cm, make ridges and beds with a ridge height of 30-35 cm and a bed distance of 90-100 cm. Adjust according to actual conditions.

2. Fertilizer and water regulation

In August, the strawberry seedlings begin to differentiate flower buds. Avoid applying high-nitrogen fertilizers to prevent excessive vegetative growth. Fertilization is mainly with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and rooting organic fertilizers to maintain good seedlings and lay the foundation for early flowering and early fruiting. During the hot and dry season, water the crops in time, after 10 pm to avoid flooding the bed surface, and drain the ditch water at 5 am.

3. Strawberry planting

Choose mid-to-late August to mid-to-late September for transplanting to ensure that the seedlings are healthy and free of diseases and pests. Before transplanting, cut off the old leaves on the outside, dip the roots in fungicides and rooting agents, transplant the seedlings with soil, and protect the root system.

4. Watering strategy

Within 10-15 days after planting, water the plants in small amounts to maintain moisture according to the weather and soil moisture. Water once in the morning and evening for the first 3 days, and once in the evening for 4-7 days. After that, reduce the frequency of watering and keep the soil moist.

5. Pest and disease control

Focus on preventing and controlling anthracnose , root rot, and bacterial leaf spot, and follow the principle of prevention before rain and treatment after rain. For anthrax, you can choose chitosan + myclobutanil, pyraclostrobin and other drugs to rotate. Root rot can be treated by root irrigation with Kuyachun + Yongtai. For bacterial leaf spot, spray with 300-500 times diluted fluorescent stick at intervals of 7-10 days.

In addition to the above points, attention should also be paid to management measures such as transplanting and growth control to ensure the healthy growth of strawberries. Friends who have planted strawberries can refer to this based on actual conditions.
