Is lettuce a photosensitive food? How to clean it?

1. Is it a photosensitive food?

Lettuce, also known as romaine lettuce, is a photosensitive food, which means it is rich in vitamins and photosensitive substances. Generally, if you eat it in excess and then expose it to sunlight or computer light radiation, skin problems may occur.

2. How to clean

1. Wash with clean water: Before washing, peel off the rotten leaves on the outer layer, then put them in the washing machine, and wash the roots first, as this is where dirt is most likely to accumulate. Then wash along the texture of the leaves to remove dust and impurities. After cleaning, rinse it once or twice with clean water and then you can eat it.

2. Wash with salt water: First prepare a basin of water, add a small amount of salt in it, then stir evenly and put the lettuce in, soak it for about 20 minutes. After soaking, rinse twice with clean water to wash away the pesticides and dust.

3. Selection method

There are loose-leaf lettuce and head lettuce. Generally speaking, loose-leaf lettuce can be stir-fried or used as a base for dishes. If it is head lettuce, it contains more water and is very suitable for eating raw. The leaves of lettuce should be thicker, the stems should be white, and they should be very tender. If there are wilted leaves, dry leaves, or leaves with insect pests, try not to choose them. Also, you can smell it when you buy it. Some of them will have a strong smell of pesticides, so don’t buy them.
