Sweet orange cultivation methods and precautions

Sweet orange cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

It is suitable for growing in loose, fertile, well-drained and breathable soil. When planting, you can prepare the soil with leaf mold, garden soil and some base fertilizer. This kind of soil is highly fertile and very suitable for its growth.

2. Lighting

It is a sun-loving plant and requires plenty of light. It can be planted on a balcony or in a well-ventilated and well-lit place outdoors. When the light is strong in summer, appropriate shade is needed to avoid affecting its normal growth.

3. Temperature

It is suitable for growing in warm places. The most suitable growth temperature for it in a year is 23-29℃, and the lowest growth temperature is 12.5℃. During the high temperatures in summer, shade and cooling are necessary, otherwise the fruit will stop growing. It also has poor cold resistance. When the temperature drops below -7℃, the whole plant will freeze to death, so you must take good warming measures in winter to allow it to survive the winter safely.

4. Watering

It likes a humid climate and is not drought-tolerant. Severe drought will stop the fruit from growing. Generally, water as soon as the soil is dry, and be sure to water thoroughly to keep the soil moist at all times. However, do not allow water to accumulate in the soil, otherwise it will cause leaves and fruits to fall, and even lead to root rot and death.

5. Fertilization

It requires more nutrients during the growth period, and some fertilizers need to be applied to supplement the nutrients in the soil. Generally, fertilization is mainly soil fertilization, combined with foliar fertilization. Young seedlings should be fertilized frequently and thinly, with nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer, and some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in combination, which will be more beneficial to its growth. Generally, fertilizer can be applied 5-6 times during the shoot growth period in spring, summer and autumn. For mature trees, fertilization only needs to be applied four times.
