Can azalea be fertilized in winter? Will it fall leaves when the fertilizer is too concentrated?

1. Is it possible to apply fertilizer?

After entering winter, the temperature will gradually drop. In a low temperature environment, the azalea will grow very slowly or even stop growing temporarily. Therefore, the demand for fertilizer is not high at this time, so unless it is particularly lacking in fertilizer, there is no need to fertilize it in winter. But before winter, you only need to fertilize it once. If you still apply fertilizer in winter, the leaves will easily wither or turn yellow, so you should not apply fertilizer to it.

2. What happens when leaves fall off?

Rhododendron likes fertilizer, but it does not like large or concentrated fertilizer. If the concentration of fertilizer is too high, its root system will be burned. Once the roots of the plant rot, it will not be able to supply nutrients and water to the leaves, and the leaves will fall off over time.

If leaves begin to fall off, stop fertilizing temporarily. Then add more water to the soil, the fertilizer in the soil will be discharged along with the water, and then you can place it in a place with good air circulation. If the fertilizer cannot be discharged, the plant must be removed and the original soil replaced. If the roots are rotten, prune them appropriately, but disinfect them before potting.

3. Notes

When fertilizing azalea, use thin fertilizer. Do not apply fertilizer with too high concentration, and do not apply too much fertilizer. Fertilization should not be too frequent. Generally, it is sufficient to apply fertilizer once every 10 days during the growing season.
