Does rice water need to be fermented for watering flowers? What is considered good fermentation?

1. Is fermentation necessary?

Rice water must be fermented before watering flowers and cannot be used directly. If you use rice water directly to water the flowers, it will burn the roots of the plants and may even kill them. Only when it is fully fermented can it be used to water flowers.

2. Fermentation Method

When fermenting, put the rice water into a bottle, screw on the lid, put it under the sun and wait for it to ferment slowly. Gas will be produced during fermentation, so you should loosen the bottle cap slightly after a few days. If you are worried about the smell during fermentation, cut the orange peel into pieces and put it into the bottle together with the rice washing water. The scent of the orange peel will reduce the smell produced by the fermentation.

3. How to determine whether fermentation is good

The fermentation time will not be too long. If the sunlight is good, it will be fermented in a week. Generally, you may need to wait about 15-30 days. When the rice water in the bottle becomes clear, it means it has been fully fermented and can be used to water the flowers.

It should be noted that even after fermentation, it must be diluted before watering the flowers. There are many plants that can be watered with rice water, as long as they are flowers that like acid, such as common ones including camellia, gardenia, azalea, green ivy, jasmine and money tree. Because it becomes alkaline after fermentation, do not use it to water plants such as cacti and prickly pear.
