Is it difficult to grow gardenias? It’s too difficult! The gardenias bought from flower shops generally have many buds, and each one looks like it is about to bloom. It seems that you can get a pot of fragrant gardenias when you buy it home, but! That is not the case! The gardenias we bought were basically grown in greenhouses. The flower farmers had applied a lot of fertilizers in the early stages, so they all looked vibrant. It is much easier to grow gardenias in the south than in the north. It is difficult to keep gardenia alive in the south and difficult to keep it alive in the north. Without further ado, let me tell you a few iron rules for keeping gardenia alive: 1. Gardenia wilts because of lack of water 2. Leaves turn yellow and water less 3. The lack of flowers is due to lack of light 4. The clay must be changed 5. Do not let water get on the flower buds 6. Whitening of new leaves indicates lack of iron fertilizer 7. If the leaves are yellow, apply less fertilizer Below I will tell you specifically what to pay attention to when growing gardenias. The leaves wilt when you get home, especially in the northGenerally, large-leaf gardenias are prone to wilting because their leaves are relatively large and water evaporates quickly. The air humidity in the north is not as high as in the south, which can easily cause the gardenia to wilt due to lack of water. Another reason is that the roots of gardenias grown in greenhouses are damaged, which directly affects their ability to absorb water and leads to water shortage. Solution: 1. Reduce branches, leaves and flowers. This will reduce water consumption and reduce the burden on gardenia. 2. Cover with a plastic bag to keep it moist. Put it in a plastic bag to slow down the evaporation of moisture. Place it in a ventilated place and avoid direct sunlight. Open it for half an hour at night to ventilate. 3. Watering by immersion pot method. Place the gardenia pot in a basin of water, with the water level 2/3 below the soil surface. Principles of watering: water less when the temperature is low and water more when the temperature is high. Generally water the flowers once every 2 to 3 days. You can sprinkle water around the flowers every day to increase the humidity of the air. There are buds, but they don't bloom.1. The reason why gardenia does not bloom has little to do with humidity. It is mainly because there is not enough light. The simplest and most brutal method is to let it bask in the sun. 2. There are three conditions for flowering: sufficient light, certain temperature difference, and fertilizer. If there are flower buds but no flowers blooming, then it is definitely a good idea to expose them to the sun. A certain temperature difference plays an auxiliary role, and sufficient fertilizer is the basic condition for the growth of flower buds. 3. Sometimes you will find that the flower buds fall off as they grow. There are two reasons for this: the first is excessive watering, and the second is lack of nutrition. ① Gardenia likes moisture but it does not mean that you need to water it every day. Waterlogging can easily cause root rot. You need ventilation! In addition, when spraying water on the leaves, do not spray on the flower buds! Otherwise, it will drop to you immediately. ② When there are many flower buds, you should know how to choose. Cut off the small ones and leave the big ones. If the leaves are too dense, they will absorb the nutrients needed for flowering, so they should be cut off in time. ③During the flowering period, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied to promote flowering, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution, and less nitrogen fertilizer should be applied. If the gardenias in your home are dropping their buds, move them to a ventilated place immediately, cut off the stronger leaves below the buds, and expose them to the sun through glass (not direct sunlight). Never spray water on the remaining buds, and they may still be saved. What are the principles for changing soil and pots?1. Many people buy gardenias planted in clay soil. Although this kind of soil is not lacking in iron, it affects the flower's ability to absorb iron. It has poor air permeability and cannot be watered thoroughly, so the soil usually needs to be changed. To determine whether it is clay soil, dip some potting soil with wet hands and see if it is sticky. If it is sticky, it is clay soil. 2. If you use loess to grow the plant, there is no need to change the soil in a hurry. You can consider changing the soil after it blooms. 3. If some gardenias already have flower buds when you buy them, do not disturb the soil and change the pots unless you don't want to see them bloom. 4. Another thing to note is that you should not fill the pot with soil, but directly move the roots with soil into another type of soil. Either keep the original soil and pot, or wash the roots and change the pot and soil. 5. The soil suitable for the growth of gardenia can be prepared with coarse sand, perlite and peat soil in a ratio of 1:1:2. If you are more extravagant, you can replace all of them with Akadama. Principles of repotting: if the ventilation is good, the roots and the pot can be the same size; if the potting soil is very loose and breathable, you can choose a larger pot; if the pot is well breathable, such as a clay pot or a porous plastic pot, you can use a larger pot. Iron deficiency can easily cause yellowing of leaves, and too much fertilizer can also cause yellowing of leaves1. If the veins of the newly grown leaves of gardenia are green and the leaves are white, it means that it lacks iron. ① Take a rice-sized amount of ferrous sulfate and add 2 bottles of mineral water to make a solution. Spray it on the leaves. Spray once every half a month. ②However, the amount of ferrous sulfate used each time is small and it is easily affected by moisture. If you want to supplement trace elements, it is convenient and effective to use homemade decomposed rice water and fruit peel water. You can search Huahua’s previous articles for the production method~ 2. Applying too much fertilizer will also cause the leaves of gardenia to turn yellow, so be sure to control the amount and don't be greedy. 3. It must be reminded that for gardenias that have just been bought and are in the seedling stage, gardenias that have just had their soil changed, and gardenias when the temperature is below 20 degrees, do not apply any fertilizer at all! Flower lovers in the north will find it easier to keep gardenias alive if they buy them at this time. Most of them still have flower buds and do not need to go through the test of temperature changes. The larger the flower buds, the easier it is for them to bloom. Those who are interested can give it a try. Are there many flower lovers who are stumped by gardenia?
