Where do watermelons grow? Where do watermelons come from?

1. Where do watermelons grow?

When watermelons mature, they become larger and heavier, and usually grow on the ground. If you use a rack to grow watermelons, when the watermelons are ripe, they will fall down due to their heavy weight, which can easily break the watermelons and affect their economic value. Therefore, watermelons usually grow on the ground.

Watermelon has strong adaptability and is cold-resistant and heat-resistant. It can be planted in different seasons and in different regions. Watermelons in my country are mainly grown in southern regions such as Hainan, Guangxi and Jiangsu. Because of the better environmental conditions, the watermelons produced in these places are not only large in size but also have a high yield. Most of the watermelons commonly seen on the market are produced in these areas.

2. Origin of Watermelon

my country is the world's largest watermelon producer, but it is not the country of origin of watermelon. There is no consensus on the origin of watermelon. Some people previously believed that southern Italy, India, South Africa and Africa were the origins of watermelon. However, most scholars currently believe that the origin of watermelon is actually Asia, and they think that Riga in Africa is the most credible origin of watermelon.

Watermelon was originally a wild plant in the Cucurbitaceae family, and was later cultivated artificially to become an edible watermelon. About four thousand years ago, watermelon was first grown in Egypt, and then gradually became popular. It first spread from the Mediterranean coast to Northern Europe, then to the Middle East, India and the Western Regions, and then to my country. That was probably in the fourth or fifth century, so my country also has a very long history of growing watermelons.
