The difference between Patrinia and Dandelion

The difference between Patrinia and Dandelion

1. Different varieties

Patrinia salsa is a plant of the Papaveales order, genus Epimedium, generally growing on hillsides, grasslands, roadsides, etc. It is also called Epimedium and Blueweed, and tastes relatively spicy and bitter.

Dandelion is a perennial herb belonging to the Asteraceae family and the Taraxacum genus. It is not the same plant as the former. It is also called Western dandelion, dandelion, dandelion grass, dandelion, etc.

2. Different plant types

The plant of Patrinia salsa is relatively tall, reaching up to about 1 meter. The underground stem is relatively slender, and the above-ground stem is very upright with densely distributed white coarse hairs.

The dandelion plant is relatively short, generally only growing to between 10-30 cm. The root is conical and somewhat curved, and the surface is brown and slightly wrinkled.

3. Different flowers

The flowering period of Patrinia scabra is around May and June. It has umbel-shaped panicle inflorescences, the calyx part is not obvious, and the corolla is white.

The flowering period of dandelion is around April to September. The flower color is yellow, and there are some purple-red stripes on the back of the edge of the floret, which is a relatively big difference. After the flowers fade, brown or yellowish-white fluff will appear on the head.
