How to prepare soil for Christmas cactus, does it prefer acidic soil or alkaline soil?

1. Soil preparation method

1. It likes acidic, loose, and well-breathable soil. When preparing the soil, you can mix one part of perlite, one part of vermiculite and four parts of peat soil. It is best to add one part of pine needle soil. Pine needle soil is acidic, which can ensure its growth better and more vigorous.

2. When preparing the soil, you can also mix half granular soil and half nutrient soil. The granular soil can be coal slag or volcanic rock. The nutrient soil can be made from fermented leaf mold, peat soil, and then add a small amount of pine needle soil. This mixture can also meet the growth needs of Christmas cactus. The granular soil can ensure water permeability and air permeability, the nutrient soil can provide nutrients, and the preparation cost is low.

3. In addition to the two soil preparation methods mentioned above, the commonly used method is to mix garden soil, leaf mold and river sand in a ratio of 1:1:1. Garden soil and leaf mold contain humus, and river sand can ensure that it will not become compacted. However, the permeability of this preparation is slightly worse, so pay attention to regular watering.

2. Precautions

When growing Christmas cactus, it is not enough to only pay attention to the method of soil preparation, but also pay attention to daily management. It likes acidic soil. When watering, you should regularly add ferrous sulfate to the water to maintain the acidity of the soil, especially in the alkaline areas in the north. Once the soil is alkaline, it will affect its growth, resulting in poor growth and affecting flowering. In addition, the tap water used for irrigation should be air-dried for two or three days before use.
