Propagation of Moon Rabbit Ears by Cutting and Cutting

Moon rabbit ears beheaded before cutting

When a plant grows too quickly, it becomes leggy, with thin and elongated stems and leaves. The reason why the moon rabbit ears look good is that it has a compact plant shape and dense leaves. Once it grows too tall, it will not look good.

If you want to solve the problem of excessive growth, you can cut off the head. Of course, the cut parts cannot be thrown away just like that, that would be such a waste. Why not use it for cuttings?

Cutting propagation of moon rabbit ears

The cut branches of the Moon Rabbit Ear should be placed in a ventilated place to dry first, and then cut into slightly moist sandy soil. The soil should be loose and well-drained. After cuttings, place the Moon Rabbit Ears in a ventilated and cool place to avoid direct sunlight. Then just wait patiently, it will take about 20 days for roots to take shape.

Precautions for propagation of moon rabbit ears by cuttings

Since the growing season of moon rabbit ears is mainly spring and autumn, and summer is the time when moon rabbit ears hibernate in high temperatures.

In the summer, the growth of the moon rabbit ears will stagnate due to dormancy. In addition, the summer is hot and humid, which is not the cool and dry environment that the moon rabbit ears like, resulting in the summer cuttings being extremely easy to rot. Therefore, it is best to propagate the moon rabbit ears by cuttings in the spring or autumn each year. If it is propagated by cuttings in the summer, it must be placed in a cool place to dry for at least 2-3 days to allow the wound to heal and dry before cutting.

Do not water frequently when taking cuttings, otherwise the stems will easily rot.
