Differences between Oxalis and Alfalfa

Differences between Oxalis and Alfalfa

1. Different varieties

Oxalis belongs to the Oxalidaceae family and the genus Oxalis. It is also called trifoliate sorrel, sour mimi, sour sorrel, sour grass, and dove sour. It is a herbaceous plant with a height of about 10-35 cm. The whole plant is covered with soft hairs. The stems are relatively thin, some are upright and some are creeping, and it looks much smaller than the latter.

Alfalfa is a plant belonging to the Leguminosae family and the genus Medicago. It is also called golden flower vegetable. There are many varieties and the yield is also high. These two plants look quite similar, but they can be distinguished in essence and do not belong to the same family.

2. Different leaves

The leaves of Oxalis are palm-shaped and trifoliate, with no petioles on the leaflets. The shape is inverted heart-shaped, the edges of the leaves are relatively smooth without serrations, and the leaves are thicker in texture.

Alfalfa also has trifoliate leaves, but they are pinnately trifoliate. The leaflets are oblong or obovate in shape. If you touch the edge of the leaf with your hand, you will find that the upper part has serrations and the texture is relatively thin.

3. Different flowers

The flowers of Oxalis are relatively regular and the petals are arranged neatly.

Clover flowers are not particularly regular.
