How to care for lilies after they bloom?

Lily is a flower that many people like to grow. Lily only blooms once a year. You need to take good care of the lily after it blooms so that it will bloom beautifully next year. How do you take care of the lily after it blooms? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Pruning

When pruning, make sure to prune correctly. Never cut it close to the roots, otherwise there will be no leaves and the bulb will not be able to recover. Just prune 1-2cm below the remaining flowers to keep the leaves and allow it to photosynthesize, so that the bulb can recover better and prepare for next year's flowering and growth.

2. Supplement nutrients

After the flowers bloom, add fertilizer in time, and try to choose fertilizers mainly composed of nitrogen and potassium elements. You can directly use Huaduoduo No. 10. 3-4 times a month, nitrogen and potassium can make its roots grow well and the bulbs strong. After pruning after flowering, it is time to start a bulb-raising stage, allowing the bulbs underneath to grow larger so that they will be conducive to growth and flowering next year.

3. Watering

After it blooms, place it in a place with the most light, and water it thoroughly when the soil in the pot is almost dry. Continue to maintain it in this way until the entire plant turns completely yellow and the branches and trunk dry up. Stop watering when the temperature reaches around 30 degrees. Generally, all the leaves turn yellow and the stems are retracted around summer, and it enters a dormant period. During this time, do not water or fertilize it. Just put it in a place with scattered light or no light, and let it spend the dormant period safely.

4. Keep warm in winter

After the lily flowering period, the temperature will gradually drop and enter winter. Therefore, the temperature must be controlled well. The most suitable temperature for lily growth is between 16 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius. The indoor temperature must not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius, otherwise it will cause harm to the lilies. Therefore, it is best to control the ambient temperature above 10 degrees Celsius in winter. On the one hand, it can allow it to survive the winter safely, and on the other hand, it is also conducive to its flowering next year.

5. Dig out the bulbs

The branches and leaves of lily potted plants will slowly wither in winter. After they have completely withered, we can cut off the branches and leaves, dig out the bulbs, store them in a cool and dry place, and then plant them again next year.
