How to grow chives

How to grow chives

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Chives are very resistant to cold and high temperatures. It prefers a warmer environment, and the temperature suitable for its growth is between 18 and 30 degrees, so it is necessary to master the appropriate temperature. At the same time, it is best to cultivate it in a greenhouse or indoors in winter to ensure that the yield is not affected.

2. Watering: Chives need sufficient water for normal growth. The soil must be kept moist so that the plants can grow taller and stronger. It has very low drought tolerance, so it needs frequent watering. Especially in summer, you should pay more attention to watering once a week, and water thoroughly. Try to avoid flooding and be careful of root rot.

3. Light: Just keep it in warm sunlight during the growth period. Adequate light can make its branches and leaves greener and grow well. However, please note that it cannot withstand strong light. Strong light will make its taste worse, so its edible value will be greatly reduced.

4. Fertilization: Chives are not suitable for agricultural fertilizers. They need to be fertilized with some chemical fertilizers, but be careful not to use phosphorus fertilizers. Watering is required after fertilizing. Reducing the application of phosphorus fertilizers can also control the occurrence of diseases and pests.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Sowing is the main method, which can also be done in spring and autumn. The temperature for seed growth is between 13℃ and 20℃. After sowing the seeds directly on the surface, cover them with a thin layer of soil and then water them thoroughly. They will germinate in about two weeks. Also pay attention to the light.

2. Pruning: No pruning is required. As an edible crop, if any branches and leaves turn yellow, they can be picked off directly. At the same time, if the plant falls over, it can also be pruned off.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Gray mold will appear, affecting the color and growth rate of the plant. It can be controlled by spraying pesticides.

2. Pests: Onion maggots will appear inside the branches and leaves of the plant. In addition to paying attention to fertilizing and not applying phosphorus fertilizer, ventilation is also required. You can spray insecticides or trichlorfon solution for control and prevention.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic, a good condiment, and is loved by everyone.

2. Can it be raised at home? Yes, but when raising it at home, you need to be careful not to place it in a hidden place. It is best to raise it on the balcony.
