How to plant Amaryllis

The method of planting Amaryllis is very simple. Just follow the steps below and it will be done in minutes.

Cleaning the bulbs

The surface of the purchased bulbs will have a layer of dried or rotten skin. Remove the skin to reduce the risk of root rot.

Clean up the withered roots. The roots of Amaryllis are white, so keep the strong roots.

Bulb watering

The bulbs are in a dry environment during the storage period and are severely water-deficient. In order to germinate better, they must be replenished with water in time. Soak the lower and middle parts of the bulbs in water that is slightly warmer than room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, taking care not to soak the top of the bulbs in water.

disinfect

This is a critical step in planting. After cleaning the damaged parts of the bulbs, be sure to disinfect them. Soak the bulbs in 1000 times carbendazim solution and take them out after 10 to 15 minutes. Of course, the disinfectant water used for soaking should not be thrown away directly. You can directly water the soil to achieve the purpose of disinfecting the soil.

Soil selection

Amaryllis is planted in relatively short pots. In limited space, soil selection is important. It is best to choose loose, well-drained acidic soil. The editor recommends a mixed soil for everyone: peat, perlite, and vermiculite mixed in a ratio of 2:1:1. Various materials are easy to find, you can just go to the flower shop and buy them. Add a small amount of superphosphate to the mixed soil as a base fertilizer.

Planting depth

The potting soil is ready, and all that's left is planting. When first planted, at least half of the bulb should be exposed, mainly to observe the growth of the bulb and avoid rot. Wait until the bulbs grow new leaves, then cover them with a layer of soil so that 1/2 or 1/3 of the bulbs are exposed above the ground.

Watering

Water immediately after planting and water thoroughly. Wait until the soil in the pot becomes dry before watering to keep the soil moist. As for top dressing, do not apply fertilizer until the bulbs grow leaves.

Placement Environment

After planting, place the flower pot in a shaded balcony with good ventilation and keep the temperature at 10~15℃ to facilitate rooting. After two weeks, move the plants to a warm place with a temperature of 20~25℃ for maintenance.
