Can osmanthus survive in the north?

Can osmanthus survive in the north?

1. Can it be supported?

Osmanthus can also be grown in the north. It is distributed to a certain extent in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. It has good cold resistance, but requires high air humidity. The air in the north is relatively dry, so you need to spray more water to keep the environment moist. At the same time, too long sunshine is not good for its growth and affects its flowering.

2. How to maintain

1. Soil: Osmanthus grows well in acidic soil. Loose and fertile soil will be more helpful to its development. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil and sandy soil, and add decomposed cake fertilizer to increase the nutrition of the potting soil.

2. Sunlight: Osmanthus has very strict requirements for light. Too strong light will sunburn the plants, causing poor growth, while insufficient light will affect the differentiation of flower buds. Therefore, during the growing period, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light, about 6-8 hours a day.

3. Watering: Osmanthus itself likes a humid environment and has a high demand for water, but attention should be paid to drainage to avoid waterlogging. In April, the plant enters the growth period, so it needs sufficient watering at this time. After entering winter, it begins to dormant and needs less watering.

4. Fertilization: The healthy growth of osmanthus depends on sufficient nutrients. Apply nitrogen fertilizer in spring, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in summer, and organic fertilizer before winter. In addition, you can water with light fertilizer during the growing season, and the concentration can be higher during the flowering period.
