Verbena cultivation method

Verbena cultivation method

1. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: Verbena is suitable for growing in loose, fertile, neutral soil. Sandy loam can be used as the substrate, adding a certain amount of coarse sand and peat soil to increase drainage.

2. Light: Verbena prefers light, but it also needs appropriate shade to avoid exposure to the sun. Generally, it can be exposed to light in the early morning and evening, and should be placed in semi-shade at noon.

3. Watering: The root system of petunia is shallow. If you water it less, the root system will not be able to absorb water. Therefore, be sure to ensure that the soil in the pot is moist from top to bottom, but there should be no stagnant water.

4. Fertilization: Fertilization of petunia is mainly concentrated during the growing season, once every 15 days. The fertilizer should be diluted enough and watering should be done the next day after fertilizing to facilitate its absorption.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Sowing: Verbena is usually sown in spring, with a survival rate of about 50%. After sowing, place it in a dark place, control the temperature at around 15-17℃, maintain a high humidity, and seedlings will emerge in two to three weeks.

2. Cutting: Cutting is usually carried out in May and June, when the temperature is around 15℃. Cut 5-6 cm branches and insert them into the potting soil. Shade for 2-3 days and then expose to light to promote rooting and germination.

3. Pest and disease control

1. Diseases: Gray mold and powdery mildew are relatively common. It is necessary to remove the diseased branches and leaves, and then spray with chlorothalonil for prevention and control.

2. Pests: Mainly aphids and whiteflies. The pests need to be removed and then sprayed with dimethoate solution.
