How to grow azalea in spring

How to grow azalea in spring

1. Management during flowering period

Spring is the middle and late flowering period of azalea, and it needs to be cared for during the flowering period. The specific methods vary depending on the variety. For newly opened varieties, we need to provide it with stable light, suitable temperature, appropriate water, stop fertilizing and control pests and diseases.

For azalea varieties that are after their flowering period, it is necessary to promptly cut off the remaining flowers after the flowers fade, and apply appropriate top dressing to promote the germination of new buds. At the same time, control the development direction and length of the new buds through pruning and pinching to make the plant as full as possible.

2. New sprout control

Rhododendrons grow relatively slowly and can take shape on their own. Their naturally grown shapes are more attractive and do not require much troublesome pruning. However, the sprouting of new buds in spring will cause an unbalanced distribution of nutrients in the entire plant, and some individual buds will grow particularly fast, vigorously, and vigorously. At this time, it is necessary to remove this bud from the base to prevent it from growing too strong and causing a disordered plant shape.

3. Delay leaving the room

Don't rush to move the azalea you keep indoors outdoors to prevent it from catching a cold. In northern areas, wait until the room temperature stabilizes at above 15℃ before taking it out of the house, so that it will not be affected by late spring cold or drastic weather changes.

4. Prevent pests

In spring, it is also necessary to prevent the occurrence of aphids. The relatively dry environment in spring is more suitable for the growth and reproduction of aphids. You can hang yellow boards at home to attract aphids and achieve the purpose of pest control.
