Honeysuckle planting, maintenance and precautions

Honeysuckle planting, maintenance and precautions

Honeysuckle is a popular Chinese medicinal herb with a steady market demand due to its popular properties. However, to grow high-quality honeysuckle, scientific management methods are also crucial. Let’s talk about the planting, maintenance and precautions of honeysuckle.

1. Key points of honeysuckle planting and maintenance technology

1. The best time for breeding: Spring and late autumn are the best seasons, especially October to November and late March.

2. Requirements for soil: Honeysuckle has strong adaptability and can adapt to most types of soil, but loose and fertile soil is better.

3. Climate environment: sufficient sunlight, moist soil, and watering in time during drought. The optimal growth temperature is 15-20 degrees. It should not be planted under the forest or on the shady slope, otherwise it will easily result in thin branches, small leaves, low quality and low yield.

2. Precautions for honeysuckle cultivation

1. Fertilization: Honeysuckle should be top-dressed in spring and autumn. Fertilizers can be organic fertilizers , farmyard manure, chemical fertilizers, etc., and pay attention to proper soiling and root protection.

2. Reproduction: Honeysuckle is mainly propagated by cuttings. Generally, cuttings are carried out in the summer and autumn and rainy season each year. When taking cuttings, choose 1-2 year old branches for cuttings. Cut the cuttings into about 30 cm long and remove the lower leaves. It is best to cut and plant them immediately. Since the survival rate of honeysuckle cuttings is low, it can be improved by treating it with rooting powder before cutting. You can also use plug trays and nutrient pots to grow seedlings from cuttings.

3. Pruning points: The pruning of honeysuckle is mainly winter pruning and spring pruning. The main thing is to prune weak branches and diseased branches; lightly prune vigorous branches and hard prune weak branches; completely remove thin, weak, dead branches and branches at the base; for young trees, the main purpose is to cultivate the plant shape, so pruning should be light, and the top of the main trunk should be cut off to make it thicker.

4. Disease and pest control: Honeysuckle should be protected from powdery mildew, leaf spot, aphids, loopers, etc. Powdery mildew and leaf spot can be controlled by spraying triadimefon, myclobutanil, triadimefon, tebuconazole, etc.; aphids can be controlled by spraying imidacloprid, pymetrozine, etc.; loopers can be controlled by spraying cypermethrin, diflubenzuron, dinotefuran, etc.

5. Intertillage and weeding: Management: Intertillage and weeding should be done 3-4 times a year, the first time in spring when the seeds germinate, the second time in June, the third time in August, and the fourth time in late autumn and early winter. Intertillage should be combined with soil cultivation.
