Cultivation methods and precautions of iron tree

Cultivation methods and precautions of iron tree

1. Soil

The requirements of the iron tree for soil are relatively high. Because it is afraid of waterlogging, the soil must have good drainage. In addition, there are some basic requirements such as looseness, breathability, and fertility. According to its habits, it requires acidic soil. Generally, sandy soil is better.

2. Lighting

It prefers light. If the surrounding area is very dark for a long time, the leaves will become dull. Generally speaking, sufficient light should be provided throughout the year, but shade is needed when the light is particularly strong. Especially when the iron tree is growing new leaves, the light must be good.

3. Temperature

The iron tree likes warmth. Normally it can be kept within 20-25℃. Pay special attention to keeping warm in winter, the temperature should not be lower than 10℃. The temperature in summer cannot be too high either, as both extremes are unfavorable.

4. Watering

Generally speaking, it is afraid of waterlogging and prefers a slightly drier environment. Just wait until the soil is dry before watering. Watering intervals vary from season to season. In spring and autumn, it happens about once every 3-5 days. Watering is most frequent in summer, twice a day when the temperature is highest. In winter, it is usually once every 10 days.

5. Fertilization

The main fertilizers used are nitrogen and potassium. The concentration does not need to be too high. If the leaf color is not good, you can add some ferrous sulfate to the fertilizer.

6. Pruning

The cycad grows fast and needs to be pruned after a period of time. Thin out the branches and leaves that are too dense, and cut off the yellow leaves directly.
