Introduction to Winter Melon Growth

Winter melon grows in the ground and its fruit grows on the vines. It is mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and is cultivated in various regions of my country. There are wild winter melons in Xishuangbanna, my country, but the fruit is small.

Winter melon growth cycle

Wax gourd is an annual herb that likes warmth and is heat-resistant. The suitable temperature for its growth and development is 25-30℃, the suitable temperature for seed germination is 28-30℃, the minimum temperature for root growth is between 12-16℃, and temperatures below 20℃ are not conducive to fruit development.

The growing period of winter melon is relatively long. It is a short-day crop, but it also requires sufficient light and long days during its growth period. If it encounters long-term rain and low temperatures during its fruiting period, the flowers will fall and the melons will rot.

Winter melon growth rate

The length of the winter melon's growth cycle varies depending on the variety. The growth period of small winter melons is about 110-120 days, while large winter melons require about 150-180 days.

Winter melon growth process : The entire growth and development process of winter melon can be divided into four periods: germination period, seedling period, vine growth period, and flowering and fruiting period. During flowering and fruiting period, reproductive growth and vegetative growth proceed simultaneously.

Winter melon growth cycle management

If high-quality varieties of winter melon are used and careful management is carried out, the yield per mu can reach about 6,000 kilograms. Generally, its yield per mu is around 3,000-4,000 kilograms. The suitable temperature for its growth and development is between 25-30℃.

Fertilization management : Winter melon needs sufficient nutrients to grow. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied after the winter melon grows out. If you want the winter melon to grow luxuriantly, you need to fertilize the leaves. Fertilization should be mainly with nitrogen fertilizer, and it should also be appropriately combined with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
