How to grow Zephyranthes

How to grow Zephyranthes

Soil requirements

The best soil for growing Zephyranthes is fertile sandy loam. Plant 3-5 bulbs in each hole on the edge of the flower bed with a hole distance of about 15 cm. Plant 5-7 bulbs in every 17 cm pot. After planting, pay attention to watering to maintain humidity.

Water and fertilizer requirements

Fertilizers can be organic fertilizers such as oil cake, compost or nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, which should be applied once every 2-3 months. Increasing phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in proportion can promote bulb hypertrophy and good flowering.

As the name suggests, the Zephyranthes plant does not require a greenhouse environment, but it must be watered regularly to ensure sufficient air humidity and appropriate watering.

Light and temperature requirements

The planting location must have sufficient sunlight, otherwise it will be difficult to produce bulbils and bloom in the shade.

When the plants grow in clusters and appear crowded, they must be forced to be divided. It is strong, drought-resistant and heat-resistant, easy to cultivate, and the suitable temperature for growth is 22-30℃.

Reproduction method

For the propagation of Zephyranthes, it is generally possible to use division or bulb planting, which can be done throughout the year, but spring is the best time. As long as you dig up the bulbs, plant 3-5 bulbs in each place, water them to maintain appropriate humidity, and they will easily survive.

When digging out the bulbs, be careful not to damage them. If there are too many leaves and flower stems, cut off the upper part and keep the intact bulb and 6-8 cm leaves for planting. If the bulb has sprouted buds, it will still bloom if you water it sufficiently after branching.
