1. Suitable soilIf you want the Clivia to bloom as scheduled, you must pay attention to the soil you use. It has high requirements for the soil. It must be loose, breathable, well-drained, fertile and acidic. Only in such a soil environment will the Clivia grow vigorously and bloom as scheduled. When preparing the soil, you can mix leaf mold and river sand in a ratio of 7:3, or you can mix peat soil, pine needle soil, perlite, and decomposed peanut shells in a ratio of 2:2:1:1. Note that the soil needs to be disinfected after preparation, either by exposure to the sun or with a disinfectant solution. If you find it troublesome or the soil is inconvenient to obtain, you can also buy special soil for Clivia, which is generally sold in flower shops. 2. Sufficient lightClivia is a very light-loving plant, but is afraid of strong light. It has high requirements for light and can only accept diffuse light. If placed in direct light for a long time, the leaves will easily be sunburned and their growth will be affected. It is also not good to keep it in a dark place for a long time, as it will affect flowering. It is recommended to provide light according to the season. The light in early spring, late autumn and winter is very soft. You can place the Clivia in a place with good light and let it get more sun. Wait until the end of spring, summer and the beginning of autumn when the sunlight is strong, place it in a cool and well-ventilated environment, and only expose it to the sun in the morning and evening. This kind of maintenance can make the leaves of the Clivia greener and also facilitate flowering. 3. Suitable temperatureThe growth of Clivia has very high temperature requirements, and if you want it to bloom, you need to pay attention to the temperature difference during the flowering period. It is best and most suitable to provide it with a temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. It is not resistant to high temperatures and its cold resistance is not high either. The temperature needs to be well controlled in both summer and winter, preferably below 30℃ and above 10℃. However, it is best to have a temperature difference of 10℃ before flowering. For example, the temperature can be controlled at around 25℃ during the day and lowered to around 15℃ at night. Such an environment can promote better flowering and is less likely to cause arrow pinching. 4. Water appropriatelyClivia likes a humid environment, but its roots are fleshy and afraid of waterlogging, so when watering it, you need to strictly control the amount of water and the number of waterings. The amount of watering each time should be enough to ensure thorough watering. Water accumulation is strictly prohibited. The frequency of watering should be determined according to the growing season. If it is in spring and autumn, when the temperature is suitable, it is usually watered once every three to five days. The temperature is high in summer and water evaporates quickly, so the frequency of watering will naturally increase, usually once every two or three days. After winter, the temperature drops and the growth rate slows down. This is also its flowering period, so watering must be strictly controlled and watering should not be done unless the soil is dry. If there is heating indoors or the climate is too dry, you can spray the Clivia with water frequently, or wipe its leaves frequently with a rag. This can promote better growth and facilitate flowering. 5. Adequate nutrientsIf you want to make your Clivia bloom, you must pay attention to fertilization. You must meet its nutrient needs so that it can bloom successfully. Clivia itself is a fertilizer-loving plant. Not only does it need base fertilizer to be applied during cultivation, but it also needs top dressing during the peak growing season. Only with sufficient nutrients can flower arrows grow. It is necessary to supplement fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium elements before flowering, and you can choose potassium dihydrogen phosphate compound fertilizer. Dilute potassium dihydrogen phosphate fertilizer with clean water, and water the plant with the fertilizer solution every 15 days until the flower arrows emerge and the plant begins to bloom. If no fertilizer is applied and the soil is poor, the arrows may be easily trapped, resulting in failure to bloom smoothly. 6. Change the pot in timeDuring the maintenance of Clivia, it is necessary to repot it once a year. Timely repotting can prevent the soil from becoming compacted and give the Clivia enough growing space, thereby promoting its vigorous growth and better flowering. Repotting is usually done in spring and autumn, and should be combined with root pruning to cut off rotten roots, dead roots, and old roots to facilitate better absorption of fertilizer and water in the later stage. The flowerpot should be slightly larger, and the soil needs to be prepared with new nutrient soil. After processing, you can replant the plant. If the pot is not changed for a long time, the soil will easily become compacted, resulting in various growth problems and affecting flowering. What to do if Clivia is pinched by an arrow1. Cover with a plastic bag: Clivia often has its arrows stuck, which requires timely treatment to promote better arrow pulling and flowering. You can move the Clivia to a completely dark environment and prevent it from seeing light. Or you can use a black plastic bag to wrap the entire Clivia, so that the flower arrow will grow easier and can be pulled out. Generally, flower arrows will grow and bloom normally in three or four days. 2. Tie it with a cloth strip: When the flower arrow of Clivia is stuck, you can use a wider cloth strip to tie up the leaves on both sides separately to give the flower arrow enough space, so that the flower arrow is easier to pull out. 3. Increase the temperature difference: The problem of Clivia's arrow being pinched is probably caused by the temperature difference being too small, so the temperature difference should be increased. It is best to have a temperature difference of 10℃ between day and night, which makes it easier to pull out the flower arrows. |
