There can be as many as 180 of them distributed in the surface of the soil, which play a role in fixing and supporting the above-ground stems. Its stem is upright and cylindrical, often with purple spots. The bulbils and seed balls can be used for reproduction. Its flowers are white, funnel-shaped, and usually solitary in the leaf axils.
