How to Identify Black and Purple Sunflowers

1. Leaves

2. Flowers

The flowers of the black and purple sunflower are capitula, solitary or arranged in an umbel shape. There are many small flowers of various shapes in the inflorescence, a layer of asexual ligulate flowers on the outside, and many bisexual flowers that can bear fruits in the center. The flowers of the ligulate flowers are open and yellow in color; the tube of the tubular flowers is very short, bell-shaped at the top, yellow, purple or brown at the top, and has 5 lobes.

Achenes are oblong or obovate, slightly flattened or with 4 thick ridges.
