The difference between Fraxinus chinensis and Ligustrum lucidum

The difference between Fraxinus chinensis and Ligustrum lucidum

1. Differences in tree trunks

Fraxinus chinensis is a large deciduous tree that can reach a height of 19 meters and a diameter of about 1.5 meters. The surface color of the bark is dark gray. Mature trunks have longitudinal cracks.

Ligustrum lucidum is a deciduous shrub with a height of 1 to 3 meters, which is much shorter than the former.

2. The difference of leaves

The leaves of the fraseri are lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, about 1.7 to 5 cm long and 0.6 to 1.8 cm wide. The edges of the leaves are covered with small serrations and there are no small hairs on them. There are many lateral veins, 6 to 7 pairs, and the petiole is 3 cm long.

The shapes and sizes of the leaves of Ligustrum lucidum vary significantly. They may be oblong-elliptical, elliptical, obovate-oblong, etc. They are about 1 to 4 cm long and 0.5 to 2 cm wide, with the edges of the leaves curled inward. There are 2 to 6 pairs of lateral veins, which do not look obvious, and the petiole is about 5 mm long.
