Difference Between Tamarillo and Tomato

Difference Between Tamarillo and Tomato

1. Leaf Difference

The leaves of tree tomato are alternate, ovate or ovate-cordate, about 5 to 15 cm long and 5 to 10 cm wide. The leaves gradually become pointed at the top, the base is oblique, with a deep notch, and the leaves are entire or slightly wavy. The leaves are dark green on the upper side and light green on the lower side, with petioles 3 to 7 cm long.

Tomato leaves are pinnately compound or deeply pinnately lobed, 10 to 40 cm long, with irregular leaflets, usually 5 to 9 in number, ovate or oblong, 5 to 7 cm long, with irregular serrations or lobes on the edges.

2. Flower Differences

The tree tomato cymes grow subaxillary or extraaxillary, with pedicels 1 to 2 cm long. The calyx is radial, about 6 mm in diameter, and covered with short hairs. The corolla is radial, pink, 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter, and has 5 deeply lanceolate lobes.

Tomato flowers are yellow, with a radial corolla about 2 cm in diameter and lanceolate calyx lobes.

3. Fruit Difference

The fruit of the tree tomato is oval, juicy, about 5 to 7 cm long, smooth, and orange or reddish in color.

Tomato berries are oblate or nearly spherical, fleshy, juicy, orange or bright red in color, and have a smooth surface.
