The difference between Berberis rubrum and Loblollyia chinensis

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of Berberis rubrum are rhombus-ovate, obtuse at the tip, short and petiolate at the base, entire at the margin, yellow-green on the surface, grayish white on the back, and glabrous on both sides. The leaves of Loropetalum chinensis are oval, with a sharp tip and a blunt base. They are slightly hairy on the upper side, dark green when dry, and have star-shaped hairs on the lower side, which are grayish white.

2. The difference between flowers

The purple-leaved barberry has 2-5 flowers forming a nearly clustered umbel inflorescence, the perianth is yellow, and the petals are oblong-obovate. The red-flowered Loropetalum has 3-8 flowers, which grow in clusters. The flowers are red in color, with linear bracts, a cup-shaped calyx tube, and 4 ribbon-shaped petals.
