The difference between Elsholtzia and Patchouli

The difference between Elsholtzia and Patchouli

1. Difference of blades

The leaves of Elsholtzia are elliptical-lanceolate or ovate, about 3-9 cm long and 1-4 cm wide, with a gradually pointed tip, a wedge-shaped base, extending downward into wings, serrated edges, green with small stiff hairs on the upper side, light green on the lower side, with small stiff hairs on the main veins and glandular dots in other places.

The leaves of Patchouli are cordate-ovate to oblong-lanceolate, relatively wider, about 4.5-11 cm long, 3-6.5 cm wide, with a caudate-like long and acuminate tip, a cordate base, olive green and glabrous above, and slightly lighter in color below, with soft hairs and glandular dots.

2. The difference between flowers

Elsholtzia has a spike inflorescence, about 2-7 cm long and 1.3 cm wide, with bracts that are broadly oval or oblate, a bell-shaped calyx, and a lavender corolla.

Patchouli has a cyme inflorescence, which forms a cylindrical spike inflorescence on the main stem or side branches. It is about 2.5-12 cm long, with lanceolate bracts, a tubular inverted conical calyx, and a light blue-purple corolla.
