Chlorophytum cultivation methods and precautions

Chlorophytum cultivation methods and precautions

1. Lighting

When cultivating, it needs to be placed in semi-shade, afraid of direct sunlight. Plants with variants such as gold edge, silver edge and gold heart will experience mosaic and leaf degeneration under strong light, so when maintaining it indoors, it should be placed in an environment with bright light but no direct sunlight.

2. Soil

The roots of spider plant are fleshy, so it is very drought-resistant. The soil you choose needs to be loose, breathable and well-drained loam.

3. Watering

When watering, you must follow the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry, and watering thoroughly when you do. Watering too frequently will cause water accumulation in the soil, causing the leaves to become dry and burnt, or even turn yellow.

4. Fertilization

During the maintenance of Chlorophytum, the fertilizer requirements are not too strong. Applying a thin liquid fertilizer every 10 to 15 days during the growth period can meet its needs.

5. Temperature

The suitable temperature for spider plant growth is between 15 and 35 degrees. It can overwinter normally above 5 degrees. Too low temperature will cause damage to the plant. For example, the leaves may be injured below 5 degrees, and the roots will be injured below zero degrees.

6. Repotting

During the maintenance process, it is generally necessary to repot the plant once every one to two years, otherwise the root system will grow too large, causing the amount of soil in the pot to decrease and the nutrients to fail to meet its growth needs. It is best to repot in early spring. Remove the garden soil and some of the dead and rotten old roots, replace it with new soil and place it in a cool place to wait for it to recover.

VII. Precautions

Pay attention to direct sunlight on the surface and sufficient air humidity. If the humidity is not enough, dry tips will appear. At this time, watering more will further aggravate this problem.
