How to grow peony flowers

1. Lighting

Peony is a traditional famous flower in China. It has large, colorful, rich and dignified flowers. It is known as the king of flowers and the most beautiful flower in the world. It has always been loved by our people. Peonies need to be planted in the ground during the growth process and are not suitable for potted plants. Around the Spring Festival, we will see potted peonies for sale, but this kind of flower is in a state of forced flowering. It is difficult to cultivate peonies in pots for a long time and have them grow well, so when planting peonies, you must choose an environment with plenty of sunlight. Generally speaking, the southeast direction is ideal. They need sufficient light but are afraid of exposure to the sun, so it is best to have some tall trees to block the light. For example, a cool environment, as we commonly call it, will allow them to grow more ideally.

2. Temperature

Peonies are relatively cold-resistant and afraid of high temperatures. They go into dormancy when the temperature reaches above 25 degrees Celsius. They can safely overwinter in most areas of the country. There are records that they can withstand temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.

3. Soil

It has very strict requirements on the soil, requiring good drainage and thick neutral or slightly alkaline soil. For example, the peonies in Luoyang and Heze are all cultivated on the Yellow River berm.

4. Water and Fertilizer

For the water and fertilizer management of peonies, two water managements should be done. The first is to irrigate with water for wintering before winter, and the second is to water it once after spring to help it grow green again. In addition, fertilizer should be applied once before flowering, after flowering, and after leaf fall, which will be of great help for next year's flowering.

5. Pruning

When caring for peonies, pruning is necessary. The dead flowers must be cut off in time and the small buds at the bottom must be removed to encourage the strong branches to bloom. The small branches must not grow too messily. These are the maintenance measures, but raising peonies well is a very tedious task.
