How to store yam for a long time? How to store yam for a long time

1. Low temperature storage

The most common way to preserve yam is to keep it at low temperatures. If the climate is relatively warm, it will begin to sprout. Although the sprouts do no harm, they will consume its nutrients and reduce its nutritional value. Generally, you should put it in a sunny place to see the light and dry the moisture on the surface. Then wrap it with newspaper, put it in a bag, and store it in the refrigerator. This can prevent the skin from turning black, and you can take it out when you want to eat it.

2. Cool and ventilated

If there is no space in the refrigerator to store it, you can also keep it in a cool and ventilated environment. The principle is the same, relying on low temperature to inhibit its growth. In addition, if the storage place is relatively humid, it is easy for it to germinate, so it must be kept dry. Although this method of preservation is quite effective, it is not a specialized freezing device and the environmental humidity is difficult to control. Therefore, it can only be stored for 10 days and will turn black over time.

3. Rice wine soaking

The main reason why yam turns black is oxidation of the cut surface. Therefore, if you want to store it for a longer period of time, you must prevent the cut surface from coming into contact with air. You can break it off, soak the cut with rice wine, and then blow it dry with a hair dryer, which will promote wound healing. Then wrap it in a napkin and put it in a cool place. It can be stored for several months.
