Poinsettia cultivation methods and precautions

Poinsettia cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

When growing poinsettias, you need to choose loose and well-drained soil. The substrate can be made of perlite, peat, vermiculite and river sand. It should be free of pests, pathogens, etc. and can be disinfected appropriately.

2. Watering

When watering poinsettia, you need to control the amount. Too much or too little watering can cause discomfort. It grows fast when the temperature is high, so it needs a lot of water. You can water it 1-2 times a day, or you can spray some water around to increase the air humidity. At other times, you can water the plants once every 1-2 days. If you water too much, the leaves will fall off or the roots will rot; if you water too little, the leaves will wither due to lack of water.

3. Lighting

It is a short-day plant and the sunlight must be controlled within 12 hours. Only when it receives appropriate amount of sunlight can it grow rapidly and flower buds differentiate. When the flower buds are developing, the sunlight should be reduced before the bracts mature, otherwise the development will stop.

4. Temperature

The temperature suitable for its growth is 18-25℃, and the minimum temperature cannot be lower than 16℃, otherwise its growth will slow down, and if it is lower than 13℃, it will stop growing. The maximum temperature cannot be higher than 29℃, and high temperature is also very unfavorable for its growth.

5. Notes

1. Disease: It will have leaf spot disease, so you need to spray pesticides appropriately, strengthen indoor ventilation, and disinfect pruning tools at all times to avoid increasing the source of infection.

2. Pests: Whiteflies will appear, which can be eliminated with pesticides. It is best to place a yellow sticky insect board with engine oil indoors, then lure them out and deal with them.
