The growing environment and local conditions of mango trees

Mango Tree Growth Environment and Conditions

Mangoes are generally distributed in the tropical and subtropical monsoon climate zones between 26 degrees north and south latitude. They were originally grown in the Malay Peninsula, the Indonesian archipelago, Indochina and the Philippines. Later they were introduced to China. There are wild mango resources in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, Shiwanda Mountains in Guangxi, and Napo County, Baise.

Mango Tree Growing Conditions

Mango trees prefer an environment with slightly higher temperatures. They are not cold-resistant and are relatively drought-resistant, but not water-resistant. They can generally be planted in places with an annual rainfall of more than 700 mm. They cannot tolerate low temperature weather with continuous drizzle during the flowering period.

Mango tree growing temperature

The suitable growth temperature for mango trees is between 24-27 degrees, and the effective growth temperature is 15-35 degrees. Normal pollination and fertilization can only be achieved when the temperature is above 20 degrees. The anthers will not crack if the temperature is below 20 degrees. When the temperature is below zero, the plant will suffer from frost damage.

The growth process of mango tree

The branches of the mango tree grow in a fluffy manner, and the outside of the branch buds are covered with bracts. During the growth, the bracts open first, then the buds slowly elongate, the leaves unfold, and then the bracts fall off. Generally, young trees sprout 6 to 8 times a year, with spring shoots from March to May, summer shoots from June to August, autumn shoots from September to November, and winter shoots from December to February. Autumn shoots can grow into fruiting mother branches, as can spring and summer shoots.

Mango tree planting time and method

The best time to plant mango trees is from June to August each year. If you use bagged seedlings, you can also plant them from March to May. The seeds should be germinated in advance, and then the seeds with the embryo end facing down should be planted in a warm, humid and well-lit place. Keep the soil moist. The seeds will germinate about the fifth or sixth day after they are buried.
