Lotus cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

Lotus needs rich pond mud or rice field mud as cultivation soil, and industrially polluted soil must not be used.

2. Temperature

Lotus has strict temperature requirements. It will germinate at 8-10℃ and lotus roots will grow at 14℃. The temperature for early sowing needs to be above 15℃, otherwise it will grow very slowly. The high temperature in summer is not conducive to its growth and development. The most suitable temperature for lotus growth is 22-35℃.

3. Lighting

It needs to receive sufficient sunlight, at least 7 hours a day, which can promote the growth of more flower buds. Do not place it in a dark environment, as it will easily shorten its flowering period or even prevent it from blooming. It is best to grow lotus outdoors. You can place it in the courtyard or balcony, as long as it is a place with good light.

4. Fertilization

Lotus likes fertilizer, but if too much fertilizer is applied, it will burn it, so apply fertilizer in small amounts and frequently. The amount of fertilizer applied in summer should be appropriately increased because summer is the flowering period of lotus. If you observe that the lotus leaves are very yellow and have no spots, it means that they are lacking nutrients and you should fertilize them in time, about once every 15-20 days.

5. Notes

1. Diseases: Lotus may suffer from rot and leaf blight, but neither is very serious. Once discovered, spray it with pesticides in time.

2. Pests: Aphids, large moths, etc. may appear. They should be caught and diseased leaves removed in time, weeds should be removed as soon as possible, and appropriate disinfection should be performed.
