How to root the money tree by cuttings?

The money tree has become a common ornamental plant in households because of its auspicious meaning. Many people buy money trees through flower markets or the Internet, but few people know that money trees can also be propagated through cuttings. Let’s learn together how to root the money tree by cuttings.

1. Ensure the right temperature

The first condition for propagating money trees is to ensure suitable temperature. Summer is the best time for cuttings because of the higher temperatures. Make sure the minimum temperature is maintained above 20 degrees, which will greatly improve the survival rate of cuttings.

2. Choose the right branches

Choose healthy green shoots or top branches, about 20 cm long. Regular pruning of the money tree can promote the growth of side branches, and the cut top buds are suitable for cuttings.

3. Prepare cuttings

The bottom leaves of the cut branches should be removed, leaving only two to three leaflets on the top to reduce nutrient consumption. Trimming the bottom to give it a bevel cut will help increase the surface area for absorbing water.

4. Use rooting solution and carbendazim

Soak the base of the branches in water containing rooting solution and carbendazim for about 20 minutes to promote rooting and prevent root diseases.

5. Cutting container and soil

Choose smaller flower pots and nutrient soil with good air permeability. Perlite and vermiculite are also good choices, just make sure the soil remains moist.

6. Management after cutting

After cuttings, place the money tree in a well-lit place, ensuring at least two to three hours of sunlight in the morning and evening every day, and avoid strong direct sunlight at noon. In the early stage of cuttings, spray with a spray bottle two to three times a day to keep the leaves moist.

7. Observe the rooting situation

After about 20 to 30 days, the money tree will begin to take root. Once the root system is established, new shoots will grow from the junction of the leaf and the stem.

Finally, when the new shoots grow to a certain height, they can be transplanted into a larger pot and given normal fertilization and light management to promote their rapid growth. This method is also suitable for beginners.
