When to sow sunflower seeds

1. Sowing time

The best time to sow sunflower seeds is in spring, summer and autumn, and it is not suitable to sow them in winter. Because the temperature in winter is relatively low, the seedlings are easily frozen. Generally, sowing is carried out in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai in April, when the temperature is above 18°C, which is conducive to the growth of seedlings.

2. Sowing process

1. Pot soil preparation: Sunflowers are suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil. Generally, sandy soil can be mixed with compost soil and a small amount of river sand can be added to provide a certain degree of drainage. Then water it thoroughly to provide a moist environment.

2. Seed selection: Sunflower seeds are very small, and it is not easy to distinguish their quality, so they generally do not need to be selected. If you want to increase its germination rate, you can soak the seeds appropriately. Soak the seeds in clean water, take them out and dry them in the shade after one day.

3. To sow seeds: Make the surface of the potting soil smoother. Then sprinkle the seeds on top and cover with a layer of fine soil. The thickness of the soil should not exceed two centimeters. After sowing, place it in a bright place.

4. Subsequent maintenance: Sunflowers will only germinate in an environment above 18°C, so the temperature must be well controlled. At the same time, the soil should be kept moist to facilitate germination. You can cover it with a thin film to keep it warm and moisturizing.
