How to propagate goldfish flowers by cuttings?

The goldfish flower has won the love of many flower lovers for its gorgeous flowers and unique shape. Since its seeds are difficult to obtain, cuttings have become the main method of propagation of goldfish flowers. Let’s learn how to propagate goldfish flowers by cuttings.

1. Cutting time

Spring and early summer are the best times to take cuttings of goldfish flowers, because the climatic conditions at this time are warm and suitable, which is conducive to the rooting and growth of goldfish flower branches.

2. Prepare suitable culture soil

The goldfish flower does not have high requirements for the cutting medium. The key is that the soil should be loose and have good drainage. It is recommended to use culture soil made by mixing river sand and vermiculite evenly to ensure good air permeability and water permeability.

3. Choose healthy cuttings

Choose healthy, disease-free and insect-free new branches from the goldfish flower plant as cuttings. Use sterilized scissors to cut 5-8 cm long branches, remove excess leaves, leaving only 3-4 leaves, cut off the small leaves at the base, and then place the branches in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

4. Take cuttings

Choose a clay or ceramic pot of suitable size and fill it with culture soil, but do not fill it up, leaving 2-3 cm of space. Use chopsticks to poke a few 3-5 cm deep holes in the soil, insert the goldfish flower cuttings into the holes, and gently compact the surrounding soil. Pour an appropriate amount of water to keep the soil moist, then place the cuttings in a semi-shaded environment and wait for them to take root.

In short, during the cutting process, maintain appropriate humidity and temperature and avoid direct sunlight. After the cuttings have taken root, they can be transplanted into new pots, planting 3-4 plants in each pot to promote better growth.
