The difference between white magnolia and purple magnolia

1. Flowers

When we hear the name, we can understand what the most important difference is, that is, the color of its flowers is different. The white magnolia is naturally white, and the remaining one is naturally purple. This is a very simple way of identification, so it can only be used when they have flowers. Normally we cannot know which one is called what through this method.

2. Trunk

In fact, the former is a tree, which means it has a trunk and grows relatively tall. The latter is a shrub with an unclear trunk and is relatively short.

3. Bark

There is a clear difference between the barks of the two. Generally speaking, the color of the former is not as dark as that of the latter, and the color of the former is usually grayish white.

4. Leaf type

The shape of its leaves is also very different. The former is long and round, with the widest part in the middle of the leaf. The leaf stalk is also relatively long, about two centimeters, and it is generally obovate. The latter is egg-shaped in color and has a stronger stalk.

5. Flower buds

The colors of its flower buds are also different, the former is white, while the latter is often green, and the former has more hairs and larger buds.

6. Petal

This difference is also quite obvious, because the former has nine petals, the three petals below are the morphology of the calyx, while the latter has no petals.

7. Fruit

The fruit of the former is larger and longer, shaped like a cylinder, while the fruit of the latter is smaller and short and round.
