How and when to plant snowflake lotus

Snowflakes is a perennial herb of the Amaryllis family and the genus Snowflakes. The plant height is usually between 10-30 cm. Snowdrops have short plants, unique flower shapes, and beautiful white flowers, making them very suitable as foreground plants in early spring flower borders. Below, the editor will introduce the planting method and time of snow lotus, let’s take a look.

1. Planting time of snow lotus

1. Spring planting

Spring is the best time to plant, which can be done from March to May. This is because in early spring, the soil still maintains a certain degree of warmth, which can help seeds or bulbs germinate and grow quickly, and as the temperature rises, the snowdrops will grow faster.

2. Autumn planting

Fall is also a good time for planting, which can be done from September to November to allow the plants enough time to grow and develop before the start of the next spring.

2. How to plant snow lotus

1. Select bulbs

Choose bulbs that are plump, well-developed and have buds, and avoid bulbs that are shriveled, rotten or infected with pests and diseases. After selecting, tear off the brown membrane on the outer layer of the bulb.

2. Processing bulbs

Soak the bulbs in a diluted carbendazim solution (1:1000 ratio) for 30 minutes to disinfect and sterilize them, then take them out and dry them.

3. Prepare the soil

Choose loose, breathable, and well-drained soil. You can use a mixture of leaf mold, sand and garden soil. When potting , you can lay a layer of tiles or expanded clay at the bottom of the pot to increase drainage and air permeability.

4. Planting seeds in the soil

Plant the processed bulbs with the bud point facing upwards into the soil, 2-3 plants per pot, and keep the bulbs 3-5 cm apart. After planting, cover with soil with a thickness of 1.5-2 times the diameter of the bulb and 2-3 cm away from the mouth of the pot.

5. Lighting

Snowflakes prefer a semi-shaded environment and avoid strong sunlight. In the early stages of planting, place the flower pot in a cool, shaded place to facilitate rooting. After the leaves unfold, move to a sunny or semi-shaded location for normal management.

6. Water and fertilizer management

Follow the principle of "water thoroughly when dry", keeping the soil moist but avoiding waterlogging. When watering, avoid the buds to prevent bulb rot. Apply fertilizer and water every 10-15 days during the growing season to provide sufficient nutrients to support plant growth.

The above is an introduction to the planting method and time of Snowflake Lotus. The flowering period of Snowflake Lotus is mainly from March to April. The flowers are as white as snow and shaped like small bells. They are fresh and cute. Friends who want to plant them can master the above methods and time.
