Does ginger bloom?

1. Can it grow flowers?

There are many types of ginger, and there are two common types. One is the fresh ginger we buy in the vegetable market, which is very spicy and generally does not grow flowers. The second type looks more like canna, its name is ginger flower, and it can grow flowers. However, it is difficult for it to grow flowers. It can only grow flowers when the soil and temperature are very suitable. Its flowers are spike-shaped, with yellow edges on the bracts and purple or green flowers surrounding them. The flower stems are about thirty centimeters long.

2. Reproduction

Because its flowers cannot bear fruit, many people help it reproduce through division, which means cutting a section of its rhizome with buds on it, about ten centimeters in size is enough. The distance between each plant is about 30 cm. Before planting, it is best to add more base fertilizer and then water it plenty. After 20-30 days, it will sprout and grow.

3. Value

Its shape is very similar to a pine cone, with scaly bracts and a small flower growing at the top. It is still very beautiful.

It belongs to the genus Zingiberaceae. Its flowers are white and very elegant. It can be used as an ornamental plant, and it can also be eaten. It is a newly emerging green food. Its roots, stems and fruits can also be used as medicine.

IV. Precautions

In Lingnan, it can be planted all year round, but its chances of survival are highest in spring. If it is planted during the Qingming Festival, it will bloom at the beginning of autumn. If it is planted for two years, its flowers will grow more vigorously. By the third year, its roots and stems will begin to age slowly, and then it will no longer bloom, and it will need to be replanted. If it is planted at home as a potted plant, because it often lacks soil and fertilizer, the plant will grow taller and have more roots, and the growing environment is not very good, so it will not grow many flowers.
