Geranium and petunia...Pinch them once and they will grow into a ball in one month!

Why do we need to pinch and top the branches?

The purpose of pinching and topping is to allow the flowers to have more branches, inhibit the wild growth of the main trunk, and prevent the flowers from becoming "bare commander" in the end. At the same time, the increase in branches will form more flower buds, thus promoting the fullness and roundness of the overall shape of the flower.

Today, Huahua will explain to you how to pinch and top the plants.

Catharanthus roseus

For those who want the pot to bloom, the first pinching must be done early, and you cannot wait until the seedlings have grown into "trees".

1. The first pinching: seedling stage

1. Remove 1-2 pairs of leaves

Start pinching the seedlings when they have about 8 leaves. Remove the center 1-2 pairs of leaves, leaving about 4 leaves.

2. Remove the large leaves that block the view

Remove the large leaves that block the bottom branches, expose the branches that emerge, and promote the growth and development of the bottom branches.

2. Second pinching: before transplanting seedlings

Do a second pinching before transplanting the seedlings into larger pots.

1. Leave 2-3 pairs of leaves on each branch

Remove the flowers that grow again, leaving 2-3 pairs of leaves on each branch.

2. Transplanting

First, place a wet paper towel at the bottom of the pot, then spread about three centimeters of substrate (peat and perlite, ratio 8:2), grab two handfuls of chicken manure and sprinkle it evenly on it, then spread another four to five centimeters thick layer of substrate, and water the potting soil thoroughly.

3. Continue to pinch the heart for subsequent maintenance

After repotting, you need to continue pinching the vinca to produce more branches and prepare for the flowers to bloom into balls in the future.

Leave 2-3 pairs of leaves on the thick branches, and do not move the small branches for the time being. Wait until they grow thick before picking them. Then, wait for the flowers to bloom into a ball.

Geranium

If you pay attention to topping and trimming the geranium plant from the time it is a seedling, it will be easy to grow beautiful flowers.

1. Topping during the seedling stage

If you want geraniums to have more branches later, you should cut off the top 2-3 pairs of leaves when they are young seedlings.

2. Topping during the seedling stage

If the main stem grows too vigorously, it will result in "one branch standing out alone" and affect the development of side branches. Cut it from the position shown in the picture (cutting here will make it easier for cuttings to take root) and the cut branches can be used for cuttings.

3. Topping before the buds open

When geraniums grow flower buds, if the buds are left to bloom, it will affect the growth of side branches. You can cut off the upper half and use it for cuttings, turning one tree into two.

4. Continue to pinch and strengthen branches

Keep pinching the tops until the plant becomes strong and full-bodied.

Petunia

If you want petunias to grow out of the pot, the most important thing is to promote branching and control the growth direction of branches, and pinching is the most effective method.

1. Topping of seedlings

When petunia seedlings are young, the two leaves at the center of the leaf should be removed to promote branching.

2. Pick flowers and cut leaves

Cut off the first flower and other unopened buds, leaving about 4-6 large leaves.

2. Cut off the branches for cuttings

Flower lovers who are reluctant to throw away the cut branches can choose hydroponic cuttings, and then grow them in soil after fine roots grow.

3. Keep the branches symmetrical and uniform

When topping, try to ensure the symmetry and uniformity of the direction of the branches left, so that the shape of the petunias that grow later will be more beautiful.

5. Cut off the branches outside the bottom pot

Cut off the branches that extend out of the pot at the bottom, otherwise it will be difficult to form a flower ball.

6. Continue to prune and wait for the bulb to burst.

Have you learned the knowledge about pinching and topping?

It takes a lot of effort to grow beautiful flowers.

I think Huahua said something pretty good.
