How to care for the newly bought ice lantern jade dew

1. How to care for the newly bought ice lantern jade dew

When you first buy the Ice Lantern Jade, you need to provide it with a comfortable potting soil environment. It does not need to be watered frequently. Wait until the soil is dry before watering it. Make sure to water it thoroughly each time. Since it has not yet returned to normal growth, there is no need to fertilize for the time being. Place it in a warm and ventilated place to acclimate, preferably in a cool place without strong light. If the surrounding environment is relatively dry, you can spray humidification appropriately.

2. Specific breeding methods

1. Soil: When you first buy the Ice Lantern Jade, you need to provide it with a comfortable potting soil environment. It is relatively drought-resistant and afraid of waterlogging, so you need to choose a soil that is breathable, well-drained, and not prone to caking. You can mix leaf mold, coarse sand or vermiculite in a ratio of 2:3 for planting, and add a small amount of calcareous materials such as bone meal.

2. Light: Ice Lantern Jade needs plenty of sunlight during its growing period, but when you just buy it, you need to put it in a cool and ventilated place to acclimate. Do not place it directly in the sun, otherwise the leaves will easily be burned. Wait until it returns to its normal growth state, and then give it sufficient light.

3. Temperature: Ice Lantern Jade is suitable for growing in a warm environment. When you first buy it, it is best to place it in an environment with a temperature of 15℃-28℃ for maintenance. It should not be placed in a high or low temperature environment for a long time. Once the temperature exceeds 35°C, it will be in a dormant state; when the temperature is below 5°C, it is very prone to frostbite. Therefore, during the high temperature period in summer, appropriate shading and cooling treatment should be carried out, and the temperature should be controlled at at least 10℃ in winter to help it survive the winter safely.

4. Watering: Ice Lantern Jade is afraid of waterlogging. It does not need to be watered frequently when you first buy it. Adopt the principle of "don't water unless the plant is dry, and water thoroughly when you water it". Each time you water, you should water the plant from the side or roots to avoid damaging the leaves due to high water temperature. Under normal circumstances, in spring and autumn, water it once a week on average; in summer, water it once every 3-5 days, and add some water mist around it appropriately; in winter, water as little as possible, generally once every 25-30 days.

5. Fertilization: Ice Lantern Jade does not require much fertilizer, and no fertilizer is needed when you first buy it. Under normal circumstances, it can be fertilized with decomposed thin liquid fertilizer or low-nitrogen fertilizer water once in spring and autumn. It does not need to be fertilized during the high temperatures in summer and the dormancy in winter.

3. Whether to change the pot

The Ice Lantern Jade does not need to be repotted when it is first bought, but under normal care, it needs to be repotted once a year in spring or autumn, because its roots will secrete an acidic substance, which will gradually acidify the soil and have an adverse effect on the growth of the plant. If the plant does not grow for a long period of time and the water content of the leaves decreases, it is likely caused by excessive acidity in the soil and the plant needs to be repotted immediately.
