The difference between orchid and amaryllis

The difference between orchid and amaryllis

Different categories

For the former, it is of the genus Amaryllis, and for the latter, it is of the genus Hippeastrum. It is precisely because they are of different genera that there are many differences between them.

Different appearance

The first is the difference in the number of their flowers. Generally speaking, the first type of plants have two flowers growing opposite each other, and no more than three at most; however, the second type of plants usually have around four flowers, and up to six at most. So, in comparison, the latter has more flowers that are opposite each other.

Then there is the difference in their flowers, which we can see if we observe carefully. The flowers of the second type are magenta with a slight green tint, and there are small scales on the throat, but this is not the case with the first type.

Different flower language

The flower language of the first plant is "desire to be loved", and the flower language of the second plant is "pursuit of love". We can make a comparison. The flower language of the former contains a sense of despair. It is just "desire". It is only this idea, but it has not been pursued through one's own efforts. The latter is very different. It contains the meaning of hope, being full of hope, pursuing your own love, rather than expecting in vain and doing nothing.

Different viewing effects

Of course, this is not to say which of the two is more beautiful, but that there are differences in where they are used. For the first type of plant, because its flowers are large and thick, it is suitable for placing in study rooms, living rooms and other places. The second type of plant is suitable for decoration in corridors, aisles, etc., and can also be cultivated in courtyards.
