Cultivation methods and precautions of Rhododendron chinense

Cultivation methods and precautions of Rhododendron chinense

1. Soil

When growing it, you must choose the right soil. It generally prefers acidic soil with loose texture and good drainage. Usually we can use some leaf mold. When adding soil, we should pay attention to using some coarse sand on the bottom layer, and then use some fine soil on it.

2. Watering

If it is dormant in winter, we can water it less. Except at this time, we need to water it frequently to keep it moist at any other time, especially in March, which is the best time for it to grow and bloom. Also, during the high temperature period from July to September, we need to water it more. It is best to water it about twice a day to meet its water needs. In addition, you can water less in autumn and winter.

3. Lighting

When it is growing, it is necessary to ensure that it has sufficient light at all times, because only in this way can its flowers bloom better. Of course, it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight in the summer. At this time, it is generally necessary to do some shielding work to prevent it from being damaged by the sun. In addition, some protection should also be provided when it is flowering. You can use some light-blocking nets for protection, but it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight at this time.

4. Fertilization

When applying fertilizer, apply a little less each time, but apply it more often. When its old leaves begin to turn green, or during and after flowering, it needs to be properly fertilized, just 2 to 3 times will be enough. In addition, remember not to apply fertilizer when the temperature is high, otherwise its roots may be burned.

5. Pests and diseases

During the regrowth process, it is inevitable to encounter some diseases and pests. Common pests include aphids, web bugs, etc. When we find insects, if the number is relatively small and you can still see them, you can just wipe them off with some wet cloth, but if the number is large, then you need to use some drugs to prevent and control them.
