Corn planting and harvesting time

Corn planting and harvesting time

Corn planting time

Corn is suitable for planting in spring and autumn. The sowing time in spring is from April to May, and the sowing in autumn must be completed before mid-July. Therefore, corn is divided into spring corn and autumn corn according to the planting time.

Corn harvest time

Corn is generally harvested from August to October each year. The specific time varies depending on the region and sowing time. Summer sowing usually matures from mid-to-late September to mid-October, and spring sowing usually matures from early to mid-September. In addition, the maturity period of corn in the north is generally earlier than that in the south.

Key points for high-yield corn planting

1. Site selection and land preparation

Spring ploughing is chosen after the Qingming Festival when the soil is moist. It can be chosen to be done after rain, because the purpose of ploughing is to keep the soil vibrant and moist. Moist soil is conducive to the rooting and germination of corn and its later growth, which is helpful for the good growth of corn. It is advisable to dig holes in the land in rows.

2. Seed selection and sowing

Choose high-quality corn seeds with intact, plump and fleshy grains that have not been infested by insects. Keep the temperature at around 11°C during sowing. The spacing should be appropriate, with the plant spacing kept at around 30 cm. Sow 3-4 seeds in each hole and cover with a thin layer of soil after sowing.

3. Fertilization and weeding

After the spring plowing of corn, you can apply farmyard manure, and apply fertilizer again when the seedlings grow to knee height. When heading, spray 0.5 catties of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and 1 catties of urea diluted with 100 catties of water. Weed once after germination, and weed once at each stage.

4. Pest control

During the growth period of corn, there will be many insect pests, which need to be controlled by spraying pesticides. For example, white grubs can be controlled by mixing DDT with sand and soil. In the morning, spread it evenly along the corn seedlings and maintain it at all stages.
